Note: The 5th Annual Thursday Doors Writing Challenge begins in four days. The way it works is simple:

  • Visit the Writing Challenge Page (TDWC)
  • Pick one or more door(s) that inspires your creative spirit
  • Write something, anything, or otherwise create or perform something based on that image
  • Post your creation on your blog and link to the TDWC Page (preferred) or to any of my posts, or email me the link. If I follow you, I might see your post, but WordPress isn’t always reliable.

If you need to use email, you can reach me at NoFacilities at gmail dot com.

We’re continuing our series dealing with Transportation. We have one more week with this theme. If you want to see where we’re heading, you can check out the home page for this challenge.

Like every CFFC topic, there are lots of things that fall under this topic. I am generally fascinated with the people and equipment used in road-building, so I have a few of those photos in my gallery.

My featured photo is from a Interstate-35 project in Iowa. I’m the passenger when I’m out there, so I keep my camera handy.

Good luck finding your photos, as you travel or in your archives. That’s how this works. Have a nice week.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

The Bulkekey Bridge is an impressive bridge, as is the I91 highway bridge. I don’t like going into tunnels but they nevertheless are fascinating structures too.

Not sure if that’s a sunrise or sunset you captured, but it’s a beauty.

Hope this proves to be a pleasant and productive week for you Dan.

    1. Thanks Ginger. That’s a sunset photo, and one I was in a hurry to get. Those colors fade very fast.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, you had to like tunnels. My wife doesn’t, especially long ones. I’ve always wanted to take the train from Chicago to Seattle so I could roll through the Cascade Tunnel. It’s the longest railroad tunnel in North America (7.8 miles).

And it’s no secret that I like bridges, and watching workers build bridges.

I hope you have a great week and I hope it warms up.

    1. Thanks Dave. I’m not sure even Bob Dylan could find inspiration in Iowa.

  7. I love the tunnels, Dan, but can do without road construction photos this year. We have major interstate and highway construction all over and around the city. Taking a highway in any direction is going to be rough through the summer and traffic in-town is already bad during high traffic times. We kid here that summer is the “road construction” season, but I don’t think we’ll be joking about it until everything is done by fall.

    Happy Monday!

    1. Construction season is upon us, Mary. The idiots around here started projects affecting both bridges across the Connecticut River. The nearest alternate bridge is 5-6 miles away. I hope you don’t run into any while on vacation.

      1. LOL, sounds like our idiots have been talking to your idiots! This too shall pass, but there will be much complaining before then.

  8. I loved that sunrise or sunset sky! The tunnels are neat, and so are the cranes and all the bridges.

    1. That is sunset, and I couldn’t get off the highway quick enough to snap the photo. The color was gone in 30 seconds. I love tunnels, cranes and bridges.

  9. No partiality but isn’t that Tampa bridge a beauty?! I am so glad you pulled over to take a picture of that sunset. It is gorgeous, Dan! I’ve not seen colors like that in ages.

    1. That is the bridge in Tampa – that’s a beauty. I had to pay a small fee to park on the fishing pier, but I was happy for the opportunity.

  17. Outstanding photos Dan. I enjoyed the mystical and misty Bulkeley Bridge with the ducks (?) on the river, truly remarkable capture of mood and scale.

Love all the tunnel images, they (tunnels) are truly modern marvels dug into mountains and hillsides to create passageways for cars etc…I am always impressed by tunnels.

That photo of the sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Fl. was a great capture of golden light reflection.. awesome. Thanks for the inspiration Dan.
