Happy first Saturday of May. One third of this year has flown by but some things remain the same. Like the fact that David and I like to relax, share a couple adult beverages, a couple of laughs and work at Linda’s weekend prompt:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sing.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
If we were having a beer, you’d be your typical self.
“Good afternoon, my young friend.”
“Good afternoon, David. You know as we both get older, the difference between our ages becomes less impressive.”
“Ah yes, but you’ll never catch me. I’ll always be older and wiser.”
“Older? That’s true. Wiser? I’m not sure that’s a given.”
“Didn’t some famous author say, ‘With age comes wisdom’ ?”
“Oscar Wilde, but that’s only part of what he said.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, the full quote is, ‘With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.’”
“Ouch.”
“I hate to interrupt this conversation, but we prefer ‘with age comes better bourbon.’ You guys having the usual?”
“Yes Curly, and my young friend is buying.”
“I bought last week.”
“Yes, but I bought your book today, so it’s gesture of appreciation on your part.”
“The Novelist’s Guide to Pittsburgh?”
“Yes.”
“David, that book is free today.”

Free from 12:00 am Saturday May 1st through 11:59 pm Sunday May 4th – all times Pacific Daylight Time
“According to Amazon, I purchased it. You want to see my confirmation?”
“Here you go. A glass of John Howell’s Bourbon, a snifter of seltzer, a glass of ice and three cherries. And a cold glass of Modelo. Now, I don’t care who pays, as long as one of you two mooks ponies up for the bill and a nice tip.”
“I’d say I’ll take the tip out of my royalties, Curley but you’re bigger than me.”
“I like the way you think, Dan. No offense to the old man, but I also like the way you tip.”
“I might not have paid for the book, Dan, but I am enjoying it and I’m here singing your praises. That’s worth something, right.”
“Emotionally, yes.”
“Does anything else really matter?”
“You’re going deep, David. I do appreciate your buying the book, and I enjoy sharing a beverage with you.”
“If you want to add to your enjoyment, we could order some of Teagan’s mushrooms.”
“Why not, I mean that book is still number one in United States Atlases and Maps, albeit it’s also still free.”
“Look out Rand McNally.”
“I doubt they’re worried, David.”
“Are they even still in business?”
“Yes, and I’m sure my brother has a recent copy of their Road Atlas.”
“Did I hear you guys wanting to order some mushrooms?”
“You most certainly did, Curley. David and I would like to share…”
“Whoa, Dan, we’d like to share—it would make our mothers proud; God rest their souls—but we don’t do that well. Make that two orders.”
“He’s right, Curley. Two orders.”
“See what I mean, Dan?”
“What?”
“Wisdom does come with age.”
The book is free until tomorrow at midnight. It will be free again in June when Willow Willers and I release the next Rascal Todd Mystery. That next book is in the series, but it is a stand-alone story. More information about that book will be coming this week. For now, I hope you’ll enjoy two things: 1) The gallery contains more sights of spring. 2) The Thursday Doors Writing Challenge has begun, and we already have some delightful poems and stories. Check out the Challenge Page. My first entry will be published here, tomorrow.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.
