Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

The badge contest ended in a tie, so I will be alternating the badge I use here, but you are welcome to use either of the winning badges.

Badge entry
Teagan at Teagan’s Books

As you can see from the title, I’m back in the Strip District today. I have a few more weeks’ worth of photos from this area, but none for next week.

I will not be posting Thursday Doors next week.

There will be a post here because I know: A) Some people don’t get the message, B) Some people ignore the message and, most importantly, C) Some people will use the opportunity to add a creative response to the Thursday Doors Writing Challenge—as this was being written, there are 15 entries. Not bad for one week.

I will also be kinda-sorta on a blog break beginning next Tuesday. I will likely skip SoCS/If Having a Beer. There will be no Thursday Doors Recap, but I will post a short story if I can write one, and I will post updates about the writing challenge. I will also pay attention to those posts as I go. I will update the CFFC page, since that runs all week. I might be late in getting to your posts. A word about that:

If I can read your posts, it will most likely be on my phone or tablet. I have a difficult time commenting from those devices, so if you see a “Like” from me, know that I did read the post and I did like it. Also, if I do manage to comment, I apologize in advance for any duplicate comments.

One last item. If you didn’t see the Cover Reveal for the novel Willow Willers and I have been working on, take a look over at Teagan’s place.

Please take some time to visit the doors submitted by the other participants, and when you have time, scroll through and read some of the poetry and short stories that have been submitted for the Writing Challenge.

Now, let’s continue our walk around the Strip.

If you are in a hurry and don’t wish to scroll through the comments, click to Jump to the comment form.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

Interesting part of the strip….long established, not nearly as well maintained as the area you highlighted last week, but lots of varieties of shops. I bet the items in the ‘everything is handmade’ gift shop are awesome. Love the tricycle display….no doors needed!

The fire escape doors in the apartment building behind Labads Grocery really caught my eye.

Have a great sorta-kinda break from blogging! I will miss you, but sometimes you just have to stop and come up for air! Although your schedule still sounds crammed full.

    1. Thanks Ginger. I bought my wife a children’s book in that store called “I’m Not a Weed” – it’s a small illustrated book on the benefits of some common weeds, including (her favorite) dandelions. I love that store, and will make it a regular stop when we visit the Strip.

The more “modern” doors in the district are in a huge old warehouse that was recently renovated. It expanded the area by an entire block, and added a lot of interesting shops. I’m guessing the rent is higher over there.

I’ll be in and out for a while. I need to support the challenges I’ve adopted, but I also need a break. That plus the fact that WordPress is making it difficult to visit blogs.

I hope you have a nice weekend, with maybe a break from the rain.

  18. First, enjoy your break next week, Dan.

Wonderful photos all. I like that store with all things handmade. Such a great way to showcase and support local artisans.

Is that you taking a picture (in the window’s reflection) in front of the Sausage restaurant/store?

Looks like the rain fell for a bit there, the nice soft light and pavement add great detail. I felt like I was there enjoying the scenery. Thanks, Dan.

P.S. I love the last photo with the two awnings, Mancini Bread (the green awning). I love those awnings; a bit of retro and nostalgia for me.

    1. You have a sharp eye, Suzette. I had to go back and look at that photo. It is me!

It rained off and on that day, but we never really got wet. We had a fun visit, picked up a few small items and enjoyed walking around the busy area.

The green awnings do give a nice look to the store, and the idea of a bread shop is also nostalgic.

      Have a nice weekend.
