Note: The 5th Annual Thursday Doors Writing Challenge is underway. We currently have over 35 creative entries, and they are all delightful. The way it works is simple:

  • Visit the Writing Challenge Page (TDWC)
  • Pick one or more door(s) that inspires your creative spirit
  • Write something, anything, or otherwise create or perform something based on that image
  • Post your creation on your blog and link to the TDWC Page (preferred) or to any of my posts, or email me the link. If I follow you, I might see your post, but WordPress isn’t always reliable.
  • Even if you don’t want to join us, you should visit the page to see what’s been written.

If you need to use email, you can reach me at NoFacilities at gmail dot com.

We’re continuing our series that, for lack of a better term, is called: “Things made of stuff.” If you want to see where we’re heading, you can check out the home page for this challenge.

This week, we’re looking for Things Made of Fabric.

My featured photo is my old writing buddy. MuMu was one of the two tuxedo cat sisters we had for about 18 years. MuMu loved to sit behind the curtains behind a carpeted shelf above my desk while I was writing. She delighted at smacking anything I placed on that shelf, like my glasses. She was with me through my first four books. The gallery includes a few other photos featuring some of the pets we loved but, sadly are no longer with us.

Good luck finding your photos, as you travel or in your archives. That’s how this works. Have a nice week. As I mentioned last week, I’m on a bit of a break. I’ll get to your posts, but I may be late.

Bittersweet to see Maddie with her Scooby Doo blanket and wearing her Superman Cape, MuMu busy editing one of your books and MiMi pressing the clothes in your suitcase!

Those are impressive quilts. Yeah, I see the shade cloth lady Dan. That is just creepy! Love the banners and, of course, Old Glory is always a privilege to see. Kudos to Betsy Ross and her expertise with some cloth and a needle and thread!

    1. I knew this would be bittersweet for you, Ginger. We miss those pets so much. Maddie and Murphy are happy that we remember them. I do miss what I imagined were MuMu’s snarky comments about my writing, and MiMi’s crazy antics.

The quilts were on display at the CT History Museum. Very impressive for hand made items.

I am glad you see the lady. She stayed in that tree for months, and it was creepy. I knew the flag would be in this batch. I hope you have a great week.

    1. She’d be very upset with me now, Lois. My complaint was that I put stuff at the end she wasn’t using. But that didn’t matter — “My shelf!”

  25. Fabric and I have a long and troubled relationship. I have so wanted to sew, but I cannot seem to get the hang of it; fabric and my fingers just can’t get along. Thus am I ever in awe of quilts and any clothing hand-sewn. (I used to Scotch tape bits of fabric together for my dolls, poor little urchins.) That curtain is a beauty, and I cannot believe that your mother would get rid of a Scooby-Doo blanket! Maddie knew what was classy.

    1. Mom didn’t get rid of the blanket. But, after she died, no one wanted it, so I took it. Thinking of those quilts and especially the quilted petticoat being hand sewn makes me shake my head in wonder.

  27. Oooh, that scary ghost lady! That was real spine-chilling stuff! Will she be in a future story or book?

    1. I keep thinking she should appear in a story, but the inspiration hasn’t gone anywhere yet. I did think it was remarkable that the cloth blew in from so far away and landed like that.
