Sometimes, there are too many things to explain in detail. A brief summary might help.

My thoughts for One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

I am putting the final touches on Poetic Justice, the new novel that Willow Willers and I have been working on for over a year. The official release will be one week from today. The book is “Live” but only because it has to be in order to produce the Virtual Voice Audio version. Of course, listening to the book being read to me caused, or at least has suggested a few last minute changes. I’ve written the description on Amazon to discourage purchase. Besides, the price will be lower in a week.

Correction: Willow and I are talking about the book today with Jacqui Murray, at her Worddreams blog, I’ll update that link when her post is up.

I had Miriam’s post confused with Jacqui’s—it’s been that kind of week—But Miriam was busy with the Thursday Doors Writing Challenge—she contributed photos for inspiration and she contributed a wonderful story for the challenge.

I’m preparing a more detailed summary of TDWC2025 which I will post on Sunday, but in total, we had 74 creative entries: 28 short stories, 39 poems and 7 entries that fall in and around the boundary between poetry and prose. I’ve said it before: I’ve read every entry and they are all very good.

One last bit of news, fans of the flag at Veterans Memorial Park may have a new flag to look at soon. I was in the park on a couple of occasions when the all volunteer crew was working. They laid out the form for the concrete base of the memorial platform and on Monday, they were pouring concrete. This is going to be a fantastic addition to the park, and a wonderful message of gratitude and respect for our veterans when it’s complete.

  1. congrats on getitng Poetic Justice so close to being ready – and how nice that you two worked together to create this book. I will look out for Miriam’s post – and oh Dan, the best puddle really was a wonderful capture. That heart – and the water vibe – brought a huge smile my way.

    1. Thanks Yvette. As I noted above in a correction, Willow and I are at Jacqui Murray’s blog today. We’ll be at Miriam’s later in June.

I’m glad you like the puddle. I love it when it appears.

  4. Hi Dan – love the ‘love puddle’ … and could you send a bit of that wet stuff over here to the SE of England. Great set of pics … always good to see what’s going on – and all the best with the tying up of all the details for the new launch next week – cheers Hilary

    1. Thanks Hilary. I thought you guys always have plenty of rain. You could certainly have shared some of ours this spring. That park has been flooded on three different occasions. Thanks for the good wishes, and I hope you have a great week.

  5. Hi Dan, Congratulations on the book. Looking forward to reading it. Taking your advice and will check it out next week. Lovely photos…I especially like Smokey’s and the other one of the ‘mix’

    1. Thanks Smitha. And thanls for finding us at Jacqui’s. Getting the book after next week is good advice. After listening to the Virtual Voice, I discovered a necessary change. It’s not a big deal, but you know how we like to get all those nagging details correct,

  6. Is there anything the bunnies don’t eat? Much as I love seeing them, my gardens suffer enough from the woodchucks.

    1. Well, they don’t seem interested in our neighbor’s fairway-like green carpet. They prefer the stuff most homeowners call weeds.

Now I crave them even more!

  7. Once that caution sign is covered by water, it looks like the boat launch will be as well.

    Congratulations on the new book!

    1. Thanks Frank!

If the river rises too far, the boat dock slips off its moorings and becomes a boat. It’s anchored to the bottom, so it doesn’t float downstream, but I guess it takes some hard work to get it back in place.

Love the heart puddle! I’m glad to see Smokey is still on Toll duty. With rain coming later this week, that boat launch might need a life jacket!

Nice progress at the park. Can’t wait to see the finished product. Nice shot of Old Glory.

Continued success to you and Willow on your book tour.

    1. Thanks Ginger. Smokey has gotten pretty bold. He actually stopped me as I was backing up. He stood up, and the alarm in the backup camera sounded. I was pretty annoyed, but he collected his toll.

I talked to the people at the park, as they were working with the concrete. They think they might get the flag poles up this weekend. I think it’s going to be beautiful.

I hope the river recedes a bit before more rain comes Otherwise, they’re going to have to go fishing for the dock.

    1. One of the nice things about this project at the park is that it expands the memorial. With two baseball fields, two soccer fields and a pavilion, the memorial aspect was always a little anemic. This will be a nice change. And, it’s a good time to make the statement.

  12. I think you have highlighted an important aspect of writing: hearing our words read aloud. That’s a whole different thing from hearing our words in our heads. Good for you for picking up on that. And good for that volunteer crew for their work. Do I remember right that this is an Eagle Scout project? Great to see the support!

    1. Thanks Maureen. I’ve used Microsoft Words reading feature, but it’s pretty bad. The Virtual Voice process actually sounds like a person reading the book, so I get an idea of the way things might sound better. It’s more work, but I think I end up with a better product.

This is an Eagle Scout project. The Scout raised over $8,000 for the flag poles, and he arranged for lots of volunteers to help with labor and material. All good skills to have.

    2. I don’t know if anyone is using the launch at the moment. There’s a lot of debris floating around out there, and the channel is pretty narrow. I’m guessing “R” but I’ll wait for an answer.

  14. The new memorial is the project of an Eagle Scout? The city is pretty darn wonderful to give him all that support. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Smokey collecting a toll is so cute. Did you give him a tip?

    1. This town really came together around this project, Lois, but this kid has been doing a lot of work fundraising and designing the memorial. He deserves a huge amount of credit.

I paid Smokey’s toll, coming and going, and when he comes to the door. This guy knows how to forage.

      1. Did the city have to OK his design before it could be implemented?

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Yes, but I’m not sure if it was Parks and Rec or Public Works. I’m guessing the Building Inspector was also involved.
