Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

The badge contest ended in a tie, so I will be alternating the badge I use here, but you are welcome to use either of the winning badges.

It’s that time of year. Last weekend, the volunteer fire department in our town held their annual carnival. This is a fundraiser for the fire department volunteers and we like to support them. Long past the point where the rides offer any temptation, I buy a burger, a ht dog, some fries and a a beer. I buy more tickets than I use and I tip the bartender—it’s all for a good cause.

I share these photos every year. Next week, I’ll share some doors from the Fireman’s Parade.

For today, enjoy the photos and please take a few minutes to visit the doors offered by the other participants

  1. Looks like a great carnival Dan, you have to have a hot dog and I’m glad they have plenty of portaloos! Here are my doors this week https://wrookieschu.com/2025/07/03/doors-of-wordpress-v125/

    1. They always do a great job at this carnival, Wayne. I’m always amazed at the people in the food booth. It was a very hot night 85°f (29°c) and they’re working over grills and deep fryers but they are so pleasant and helpful.

      1. Oh wow they must have been so hot. Yes they’re probably still smiling and I’m sure the food would be delicious. You can’t beat those food booths.

  24. I always enjoy your carnival photos, Dan; these are no exception. Carnival photos are nostalgia par excellence for me since childhood.

Hot dogs and carnival fare are so fun. I like the Ferris wheel; it does not look too intimidating, but I would still think twice about participating in any Ferris wheel ‘adventure’ at my age.

Great photos and lots of vibrant colors. Love the car rides, the cute mini Disney Tour double-decker bus, and the tilt-a-whirl with the flag flowing in the slight breeze.

It is a nice area for a carnival. The clouds look a bit like rain. Hopefully, all was well on the day of the event. And a great cause. Thanks very much Dan.

    1. Thanks Suzette. It rained during the day the day it opened, but the rain stopped just before it opened. I stayed away because I felt the picnic benches would still be wet. The other two days were dry. Hot, but dry.

Fair food makes a great meal. You can always hide behind “it’s for a good cause.”

I’m glad you like the photos. I hope you have a great weekend.

  29. I admit I laughed — but sympathetically — at how you are long past the temptation of getting on the rides. But we ride the memories, yes? I love all the color and the way it celebrates summer. It’s so good that people support causes like this one. And I think it’s splendid the way they supply you with so many doors every year — I think they must know about your Thursday Doors!

    1. They are very helpful, every year they give me two easy week’s worth of doors. One from the carnival and more next week from the parade. I do take those rides in my memories, even the ones of being squished against the side of the tilt-a-whirl.
