Before I explain that title, I want to mention that This is the final week of the launch tour for Poetic Justice. Willow and I are visiting Darlene Foster today. I will also add that the Kindle version of Poetic Justice is on sale today through Saturday for $0.99. That will carry us through the final tour stop on Friday. So, you regular readers can expect an unusual Friday post from me I’ll keep it short, just a link to Jan Sike’s place and maybe a bunny.

Yesterday was going to be a busy day. I had some shopping to do early, and then I was going to be working in my shop until 1:30 pm. At 2:00, I was supposed to  attend a hour-long Zoom meeting. I don’t like Zoom meetings, but I had accepted the invitation. After the meeting, I was planning to head over to the local soft-serve stand. I love their hot dogs, and I was going to have two and maybe a sundae for dessert.

I left my shop and went inside on time. I woke up my computer and opened a browser. I checked the weather, as I often do. The screen had lots of yellow and red—NOAA said we could expect severe thunderstorms and rain falling at up to 2” per hour beginning at 3:00. What’s a boy to do? Sorry about that meeting, guys—z’oops.

  2. Ant excuse I guess. Was the storm a bad one?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The storm was bad enough to justify my decision. Lots of rain in a short period. We’d rather have a long soaking rain, but at least all the plants and trees got a nice drink.

  3. Sensible choice Dan the hot dog and Sunday look amazing!

Its all about priorities isn’t it! Lovely photos as always 💜💜💜

    1. Thanks Willow. It is all about priorities, but it’s still hard to put my own priorities first. But that sundae was so good ;-)

  4. It’s funny how our priorities change when we retire. A favourite snack before it rains outweighs a Zoom meeting! Thanks for the shoutout.

    1. It has taken me a long time to get used to the idea of being retired, Darlene, but it came down to this snack or that meeting. Thanks for hosting us today, we really appreciate your support.

      1. It’s been ten years for me, and I’m still not used to being retired! So I understand. I also understand going for the snack (especially the sauerkraut!)

        1. In some ways, I’m busier now than when I was working, but I had my heart set on that simple meal.

  5. That is one gorgeous hot dog! That would fortify you for any kind of storm! As for meetings, I bet most people consider a life without them one of the best perks of retirement.

    1. Meetings are the thing about working that I miss the least. I actually liked my job, and I enjoyed doing the work, but I never liked meetings. On the other hand, a simple summer meal at a picnic table–it doesn’t get much better than that.

  6. On a list of priorities, eating comes before Zoom even alphabetically. :-)

    1. Haha – that’s a great point, Dave. I’m feeling better and better about this decision. Have a great day.

  7. Bunnies, bunnies… everywhere!
    So sweet.
We were supposed to get some of that heavy rain, which we need, but it sailed by north of us.

    1. We didn’t get as much rain as they said we might, but we got enough to give everything a drink. Sorry it missed you.

  11. Smokey is adorable with his peanut! Look how big his eye is! You can see the white of his eye! He must be so excited. 😂
It sounds like you made the right call skipping that meeting. The ice cream looks yummy!

    1. I was on my way out to my shop, Deborah but Smokey wanted to eat that peanut right there. I waited and then tossed a couple more for him to take with him.

I think I made the right call. I can watch the meeting on YouTube.

      1. Thankfully, there are replays! You made Smokey’s day I’m sure! 😊

  12. Both the bunnies and the squirrels are cute. I like how Smokey is holding that peanut, receiving a present from you.

    1. I love watching them as they eat the peanuts, Frank. They are so methodical. They normally take them and run, but he stayed and ate this on where he found it.

  13. Excellent photos, Dan. You captured the drama unfolding in the skies wonderfully, especially the one titled “Storm is Brewing!”

I love all the beautiful critters, and that fluffy squirrel (white undercoat) is so cute, along with the baby bunny and my favorite, Smokey. But all the bunnies are adorable, I must say.

Great photo of the CT train!

The hotdog and the sundae, what a great summer lunch. Have a great day Dan. Cheers.

    1. Thanks Suzette. By the time I got home from that meal, it was raining, so I think I made the right choice.

I love it when the baby bunnies first venture out into the yard and are barely taller than the grass they’re eating. They are cute, but the squirrels are, too. Smokey was very happy to get that peanut, and he stayed for a couple more. I think it was too hot to run off.

I like the way they’ve painted the CT Rail locos.

      I hope you’re having a great week.

  14. Priorities, Dan. Any reasonable person would understand the need to feed that craving. Not far from where we live is the legendary Walter’s Hotdogs; the dogs themselves aren’t the stuff legends are made of …. a simple dog, split lengthwise, grilled in butter, served up how you like it. No, it’s the place itself that’s legendary, with it’s pagoda-shaped roof decorated with wrought iron dragons. True fans come from miles. Some have visited from abroad and send postcards upon their return home. It’s been a while since I paid my respects; today may be the day.

  15. Love smokey with his nut.

I watched the storm go through north of us yesterday afternoon on a cool app called Windy: Hartford weather forecast. It displays the lightning flashes going off on my phone in the weather radar layer. It makes me phone buzz when there is lightning. Such fun! There is a choice of 7 different meteorological models to choose from. And many different map layers. I used to teach weather and climate, so this app is right up my alley.

  16. A Zoom meeting when you are retired?! What kind of fresh hell is that?

And hot dog and sundae at 3 o’clock in the afternoon? What time do you eat supper?! Or did your wife say, “Consider that dinner, honey! My work here is done.’ Oh, forget it. That was me speaking. 🤣😂

    1. Haha – We eat very early, Lois. That was my last meal (2 hot dogs). We are early to bed / early to rise folks. I don’t normally eat that early, but I don’t normally finish with a hot fudge sundae.

      1. I am so happy to hear you say you eat early, Dan. Our daughter comes to visit and when we get ready for dinner, she always says, “Oh, that’s fine because it’s dinner time where we are.” We are Central time and she is Eastern Time, so an hour ahead of us. But really, I think she is just being nice to us. 😆

        1. We’ve always had dinner early than most. If it’s too late, I can’t sleep.

  17. The zoom meetings/seminars/whatever you call them are one of the perks of covid but also sometimes a drag. I enjoy not having to explain a change of plans to someone — sometimes forces outside our control make keeping those appointments impossible. Though an appointment for a sundae is top priority.

    1. I saw the recap of the meeting today (I’m glad I had ice cream instead). The ability to hold a meeting like this is great, but it’s still an hour plus prep-work that you’ll never get back.

  18. Oh, those bunnies! Yes, squirrel, you guys are cute, too. Wildlife has been sparse around here, lately. Maybe it’s too hot for them. We haven’t even seen Clover the groundhog.

We had a groundhog, but only for a day. Just passing through I guess. We must be listed in the road atlas ;-)

  21. Zoom meetings generally aren’t much better than in person meetings. Glad you had an excuse to miss it and enjoy a summer time snack. Hope you got all your shopping and working in the shop completed before the rains came.

    1. The squirrels are in our yard. These bunnies are in yards I walked by one morning. We measure our walks this time of year in bunnies. Monday was a 7-bunny walk. They’re everywhere.
