Earlier this year, I was complaining about various problems I was having with liking and commenting on blogs. It was quite a frustrating mess.

I can report that, as far as I can tell, the problem I was having with duplicate comments has been solved. I still have to login-login-login at some blogs. I still have to copy the URL for some blogs out of Firefox and paste it into Google (who cares much less about security). I still write comments, push “Post” and have the comment disappear. However, all of these problems seem to be getting a little bit better.

Of course, there’s always another shoe.

From WordPress for One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

I started getting this message last week. I go to a blog. I like it (that works). I type a comment, but when I paste it, I get that message and I’m no longer on the blog page I was reading. So, I’m back to typing a comment, selecting all of it and copying it—just in case.

I will add that there have been some blogs where nothing is successful and although I liked the post, I have been unable to post a comment. Sorry.

  1. Yes, WP is always up to something no good somewhere. There are blogs where I can’t post my link in the comment section on the blog, so I have to do it in the comment section of the Reader.

The latest thing is I backspace to correct a letter or word and everything I’ve written so far goes away. That’s quite frustrating, to say the least. Perhaps WP is there so we can practice patience. I’m sorry to say it generally has the opposite effect.

    1. Thanks for mentioning that backspace issue, Janet. I’ve had that happen twice, but far enough apart that I assumed it was me with a heavy handed tap on the keyboard. Yeah, this stuff isn’t helping my patience.

    2. I thought the backspace issue was something I was doing wrong! Misery loves company so I am (kind of) glad to see I am not the only one.

    1. Thanks Wayne. The black squirrels are Easter Gray Squirrels but they have a gene missing. Since they can breed with the gray squirrels, their population has been growing. We love seeing them in the yard and in the neighborhood. They used to be somewhat rare.

  7. Sometimes I think the only solution to living with computers is to throw them against the wall. Comments are such fun to get that it should be super easy to leave them. That’s a lovely drip, a perfect reflection, and totally deliberate cream puffs! I can feel the powdered sugar accumulating on my chin!

    1. I’ve come close to trying that solution, but I’ve always been the guy that would have to fix them. Comments should be the easiest thing, as easy as cream puffs.

Love the photos. I’ve noticed we have more and more black squirrels, too. They used to be very rare.

    1. I read last year that their population was growing north/northeast. They were rare around here many years ago. Now they’re fairly common, but still cute.

Backspacing to delete one letter and everything I wrote disappears happens to me constantly. I thought I was doing something wrong but couldn’t figure out what!

Smokey, bees in the balm are great. But the squirrel announcing “I’m guessing you didn’t see me on the ground, so I crawled up here” absolutely cracked me up. Some of these guys guys could take their show on the road!

Those cream puffs! I used to make them all the time but not quite as ginormous. I can almost taste them.

Beautiful shot of the flags at the memorial.

    1. I had the same feeling, Ginger, that I must have hit the wrong key or the right one too hard. The worst part is that Backspace is one of my favorite keys ;-)

When we don’t notice the critters, or when we’re “late” according to their clocks, they let us know. One crawls up on the screen of the bathroom window. He/she has started my wife on numerous occasions.

Those cream puffs would require some knife and fork action.

So glad you’re back in the comment section. I hope you keep improving.

Love the close up of the worm/caterpillar in the apple. We had giant caterpillars ravish all our tomato plants one summer; it was most demoralizing.

  15. Smokey overlooking his domain is a wonderful photo. I love how polite he is asking for peanuts, too. We have a baby squirrel that hangs out in our backyard….much to the chagrin of my cats. He will stare at them while he’s eating whatever it is he is eating. Just stare at them. Makes me laugh every time.

  16. The commenting issues have nearly driven me ’round the bend. Repeated log ins, disappearing submissions, the rare duplicate comment post all made me itchy but I swear I threw my phone across the room the second time I hit a backspace key and my entire box went blank. I like to think I’m a zen human…then WordPress decides to WordPress and it’s out the window.😭

  18. Your experiences attempting to comment are now commonplace for all of us. And I have to wonder why that doesn’t bother WordPress enough to fix it? My take is that WP doesn’t like personal bloggers, preferring business accounts, so even though we’re the people who got them to this point, we are expendable. 🤨

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I don’t think they care about anyone. I had them for our business website before I retired. They deactivated our theme and gave us 30-days to switch to a new theme. There was no way to migrate, so we had to rebuild the whole site. Fortunately, we had all the text and graphics stored offline, and our site was a simplistic one.

  19. I have these problems as well with an additional one where the Twitter button says the word “tweet” If I hit it then the tweet goes without a handle. I have to copy the post link and then add the handle. I think this is a problem with a Firefox setting since my old Mac (Safari) doesn’t do it. Great photos.

  21. Great puddle of reflection…perfect capture, Dan!

I love Smokey’s “photo essay…novella”…so cute as the peanut saga-trilogy unfolds from the ground to the fence to the post, and a peanut is scored in triumph.

The close-ups look fantastic, especially the Rose of Sharon.

Love the subtle nod to Poetic Justice with the cream puff! Well done hint. I had envisioned in my reading thus far that the cream puff was a size smaller than the decadent ones in your great photo. …I haven’t had a cream puff in a while…thanks for the idea!

    1. Thanks Suzette. Smokey usually takes a peanut and runs. That time, he just sat there and ate one and then asked for another. He finally took the third one up to the fence. They have us so well trained.
