This week, we’re completing the series in which we’re looking for photos taken from a specific perspective. The current challenge is one that was suggested by one our readers. If you want to see the upcoming ideas, take a look at the home page for this challenge.

This week, we’re looking for photos taken from alongside of something or of something alongside of something else. The thing you’re alongside of doesn’t have to be the subject, it just might be there. Maybe it’s in your way. Maybe you’re leaning against it for stability or maybe it is your subject. Maybe it’s not even you. You know how this goes, if you like the photo, we’ll like the photo.

My feature photo today are the “love locks” on a bridge over Panther Hollow in Pittsburgh. The hollow runs between the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of students have pledged their love and locked it to the fence.

OK, let’s take a look at the photos I’ve gathered this weeks’ prompt.

  1. I don’t think I had ever had a corona in a glass but good you still have the lime.

    1. I usually shove the lime in the bottle, Wayne, but sometimes a cold glass is just the thing to carry the beer.

      1. Me too, I love the lime in the bottle. I have just never seen it in a glass, interesting.

  2. Dad used to work for a Triumph dealership in the sixties and I used to hang out in the showroom for hours. The forward tilting engine hood (we called it the bonnet) on the Spitfire had me entranced. My slice of heaven. I have found some pics from a car show held just down the road from us. https://dancingwithmagpies.wordpress.com/2025/07/21/british-beauties/

    1. I would have loved hanging out in that showroom. Although I grew up in the heyday of American muscle cars, I was fascinated by British cars. I owned that Spitfire for 30 years–long enough for our daughter to learn how to drive it and to be stranded on the side of the road when it broke down.

      1. I chuckled out loud at that. The breaking down in those days seemed part of the deal! 30 years with your Spitfire would have been a loyal relationship, through good times and bad times.

        1. It broke down the day after we bought it. An electrical problem (one of many to follow).

  3. What do you suppose the bunny and squirrel are talking about?
    ❤️

    1. I don’t know. New mom and newly born baby. Maybe the squirrel was offering some advice. They get along very well in the yard.

  4. Great picture of The Bean! I used to work not far from it — of course that was long before The Bean. My favorite above is the night picture of the Roberto Clemente bridge; that’s a beauty. I must also say that the frozen river looks pretty good this morning. The bunny and the squirrel alongside each other is a classic!

    1. I’d love it if the CT River was frozen today instead of slowly boiling away. Soon enough, I guess. The Roberto Clemente bridge is one of three nearly identical bridges set in a row. I love the fact that the city has recently restored all three of them. They are named for Clemente, Andy Warhol and Rachel Carson. The bunnies and the squirrels always seem to get along in the yard.

  5. As Robert Frost sort of said, good fences make good photos. :-) And animals help, too. :-)

  6. The river scene looks so chilly. It would make a good landscape painting though.

    1. I like visiting the river when it freezes. Some winters, the ice comes and goes, but sometimes, it stays frozen during most of January.

Interesting challenge and photos, Dan. The photo of the Flag at half-staff is particularly evocative. Have a great week! 🌞

  8. Ah, all that youthful love. I hope that fence stands forever. Dan, the gallery is filled with great responses to the prompt. I love how the mom squirrel seems to be babysitting the baby bunny. Hugs.

    1. When they rebuilt a much larger bridge, they cut off over 11,000 locks saying that the weight was actually becoming a concern. I love the photo of mom and baby.

  11. Wonderful gallery, Dan. Lots of great ideas and examples. Love the love locks photo…perfect.

The critters are outstanding. Love the bunny hiding…adorable.

The Connecticut River view is spectacular; you captured light and shadows and the sun beautifully. Looks like a serene spot.

Your workbench photo is amazing; that is a long angle, you captured a lot in that shot.

The Bean is pretty cool, and the unique mirror images of people reflected off its top are amazing. I have never seen anything quite like it.

    Have a great day.

    1. Thanks Suzette. I’m glad you like these. The bean is a favorite, as are the bridges. There are so many bunnies around here these days. I saw eight of them while walking this morning. But they’re all so cute.

The locks on the bridge made an interesting subject for this prompt.

I hope your week is off to a great start.

      1. Thanks Dan. The week is off to a great start. Cheers.
And of course photos of bunnies help the week start nicely too.

Love the “Love Locks” and any photo sweet Maddie is in! This redhead will never be forgotten.

You and David and the Bean in Chicago, the bunny and the squirrel discussing who eats what food, and the baby bunny who thinks he’s hiding are all great shots.

But, as always, Old Glory, sadly at half staff for this photo, still Is impressive. Awesome shot Dan.

    1. Thanks Ginger. Maddie will never be forgotten. She was such a special girl. The bunnies are all trying to make themselves at home and the squirrels are remembering when they were the cute ones. I miss David, too, and he will never be forgotten.

  15. Love the fence series. — But riddle me this: what happens to the relationships when those love locks are removed?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m not sure. Also not sure how many people are out there with bolt-cutters trying to remove one that was locked by mistake.
