Happy Saturday. David and I are here at the bar where we are trying to escape the heat and humidity as we prepare to take a break from our regular weekly meetings. We will also try to deal with Linda’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt.
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “starts with Q.” Think of a word that starts with the letter Q and write your post around it. Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

If we were having a beer, we’d be trying to stay focused.
“Good afternoon, Dan.”
“Hi, David. I’m glad you like sitting inside on these hot days. Just looking at the people on the patio makes me sweat.”
“I’m going to get enough sunshine and fresh air on vacation, Dan. I don’t need to start early.”
“So, you guys are both leaving me? Are you going away together?”
“Normally, I’d chastise you not to be absurd, Curley, but in this case, whatever Dan is planning to do will be better than what I’ll be doing.”
“The suspense is killing me, David, but before I ask, can I set up some drinks?”
“Yes, our usual, please.”
“And, I’ll be picking up the tab today, Curley.”
“That’s good news, Dan. Here’s your Modelo. David, I’ll be right back with your John Howell’s Special.”
“I read that you’re suspending Thursday Doors for two weeks, Dan, are you going away that long?”
“No. I will be in and out during the next two weeks, but I don’t want to worry about blogging.”
“Here you go, David. A glass of bourbon, a snifter of seltzer and a glass of ice. And, cherries, I didn’t forget the cherries.”
“Thanks Curley. Cheers Dan.”
“Cheers. I have to ask, it sounds like you’re not looking forward to your vacation. What’s up with that?”
“Relatives.”
“Yours?”
“No. My wife’s. They’re having a family reunion to celebrate her mother’s birthday.”
“Can I assume it’s a big one?”
“Dan, when you get to be my age, they’re all big ones.”
“You shouldn’t talk like that, David. You’re in good health.”
“Dan, I sold financial products for a living. I spent my career knowing when people are ready for their dirt-naps.”
“An industry term?”
“We do tend to have a callous disregard for the subjects of our analysis.”
“So, I take it your mother -in-law is beating the odds.”
“She is. One century above ground.”
“That sounds like a good reason to celebrate.”
“It would be, if her birthday was in January, or if she lived in Maine.”
“Florida?”
“Yes, near Orlando, of all places.”
“I once spent six months—April to October—flying back and forth to Orlando. I was the only guy on those planes not going to Disney.”
“That must have been rough, Dan. My wife doesn’t want to fly.”
“You’re driving to Florida? In August?”
“It gets even worse. When she found out we were driving, my sister-in-law invited herself to ride with us.”
“The one you don’t like?”
“You’d have to be more specific, Dan. My wife has three sisters.”
“Do you get along with her husband?”
“Yeah, but that lucky S.O.B. is having a hip replaced.”
“He scheduled that during this trip?”
“It was scheduled before my wife’s youngest sister cooked up this idea. His surgeon is booked. No way to avoid it—so he says.”
“Well, if I drive anywhere, I’ll be driving alone.”
“I envy you your nice quiet ride.”
“How long will you be in Florida?”
“Not counting the time driving, a full week.”
“Will you be visiting the parks?”
“No! My wife and her family can handle that alone. I’m going to golf with some of the guys, and I’m going to tour the Space Center.”
“I did that years ago with my friend David, the one from England. That’s a fascinating tour.”
“I might even book a night in a cheap motel. Starting today, there are three scheduled launches at the Cape. We’ll be there for two of them.”
“Anything to get away from the crowd, huh?”
“One of my wife’s nephews might tag along. He’s a geek like you, works in IT, loves science.”
“A geek like me? You’re the one going to the Space Center, David.”
“I’m doing it to get away, Dan, but I’ve been reading up on these launches, in case I have to defend my decision.”
“Curley, how ‘bout we send David off with an order of Teagan’s mushrooms and another glass of bourbon.”
“Coming right up, Dan!”
I will be taking a blogging break from now until August 13th. I will publish the Thursday Doors recap for this week (tomorrow), and I will post the Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge prompts, but my presence will be limited. I will also hang a placeholder post each Thursday for the folks who don’t like to miss a week of doors. I might see you at your blogs, but I’m not making any promises.
Willow and I have been happy to see some wonderful reviews of Poetic Justice. I put together a happy little video to share some of them. It’s included below the gallery.
