This week, we’re beginning a new series in where we’re looking for photos taken at different points during the day. This challenge was suggested by one our readers. In fact, that reader was none other than Willow Willers, my delightful co-author. If you want to see the upcoming ideas, take a look at the home page for this challenge.

This week, we’re looking for photos taken near dawn. For this series, the day has been divided into six blocks of time, so we need to be careful not to overlap. After dawn, we will move onto “Morning” then “Afternoon” before moving into the evening, etc. The timing doesn’t need to be precise, I mention this only to help you prepare for the upcoming weeks.

One other thing you should know is that CFFC is the only blogging I’ll be doing for the next two weeks. I want to keep this challenge active during my break, but my presence will be limited. I plan to visit everyone who links their post to this page, but it might take me a while.

My feature photo today is a picture of Hartford taken from Great River Park across the river in East Hartford. When I was working, I used to stop at this park often. Once I got across the river, I didn’t have to worry about traffic. Stopping at this park allowed me to relax for a while before heading to the office.

OK, let’s take a look at the photos I’ve gathered this weeks’ prompt.

Of course, even on while on a break Willow and I are still shamelessly advertising our recent book. In fact, we’ve added a new video (below) where we’re sharing some of the comments people have made in their reviews of Poetic Justice.

  7. That feature photo of Hartford is a beauty! But they all capture an early-morning vibe. The calms before the storms.

    1. “Calm before the storm…” is exactly why I liked stopping at the park by the river before going into the office. Those few minutes were always the best part of the day, until got home.

As is the morning bunny of course.

    1. Thanks GP. Our daughter and I drove to one of the overlook parks to get photos at sunrise. One of the few times I actually planned to get photos. One of those photos is on the cover of “When Evil Chooses You”

    1. Thanks Teagan! The (almost) only think I miss about working is stopping at that park every morning on my way to work. It really is true that you never see the same river twice.

I’m glad you liked the video. Willow said I had to include the “Cow” comment. I hope you have a delightful week.

  12. Beautiful photos, Dan. There are times when I miss dawn and the gorgeous sunrises while driving to work, but I certainly don’t miss getting up in the dark to see them. Now I have a high school friend who is on a farm and up early – she sends me photos of the pretty sunrises so I don’t have to get up to see them. Perhaps in a couple weeks, I can come around with afternoon photos since I’m usually awake by then. ;-)

    1. Thanks Mary. After this series is complete, your suggestion will be next. That won’t be until September. I’d say maybe things will have settled down by then for you, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. How did you ever find time for work?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. LOL…I don’t know how I squeezed in work. It’s mind boggling!
I saw that my suggestion pops up on September 8th, so I put it on my calendar to publish a post. I have a three-day music festival coming up on Thursday, a day of rest, then helping in the kitchen for three days during our church’s annual Arts Camp for the kiddos. After that I’ll breathe for awhile, maybe go for a couple bike rides, until the end of September, when I’ll be visiting brother in Colorado. Yeah, how did I ever manage to work? :-p

    1. It’s pretty much the only time I see dawn now, unless I’m traveling. I used to love stopping at that park in the morning. It was only open dawn-dusk, but they didn’t used to lock the gate. Some idiots took it over during Covid. They did a lot of damage and left a huge mess. After that they started locking the gates at the posted time. If I were still working, I wouldn’t be able to stop there during the depth of winter.

  15. Oh wow! Dan, you captured not only the images but a great mood and welcoming vibe in these dawn photos, especially the feature photo, the ones in the park (Great River Park), and those on your walk. I love the sense of newness and freshness, I feel that exudes from this time of day. Love the little bunny too, of course, what can I say…adorable-cuteness.

That photo of the Ohio River: the mist, the bridges and the skyline is stunning. Even in the muted light, there is so much detail and drama in the waves on the river…superb!

I hope your vacation and time off are peaceful, Dan. And safe travels.

    1. Thanks Suzette. The feature photo is my favorite. I loved beginning my day with a stop at that park. Between the sky and the river, it was never really the same. Some mornings, if traffic was really light, I got there early enough to walk along the trail by the river. I never wanted to go the rest of the way into work on those days.

Our daughter and I drove to that overlook park to photograph the sunrise over Pittsburgh. While we were there, that mist formed over the river. We were watching a kayaker, and he disappeared beneath that mist.

Thanks for the good wishes. I hope you have a nice couple of weeks, too, but I’m sure I’ll see you at your place.

  18. These are so pretty. Dawn is about the prettiest time of day. So I hear. Our dawn is an hour earlier, and I can only imagine what it looks like from bed. 😂

I had to laugh at your comment about not worrying about traffic once you crossed the river. I like how we measure things when driving. When I was driving home from the prisons, as soon as I crossed the river, I was about 10 minutes from home.

    1. Growing up in Pittsburgh I swore I’d never work for a company on the other side of a river. In 2004, our company moved to the east side of the CT River. Thank goodness I found that little park (and a back way to a different bridge on the way home).
