This week, we’re beginning a new series in where we’re looking for photos taken at different points during the day. This challenge was suggested by one our readers. In fact, that reader was none other than Willow Willers, my delightful co-author. If you want to see the upcoming ideas, take a look at the home page for this challenge.

This week, we’re looking for photos taken in the morning. For this series, the day has been divided into six blocks of time, so we need to be careful not to overlap. Last week, we covered dawn. This week, we move into “Morning” then “Afternoon” then we’ll cover evening, etc. The timing doesn’t need to be precise, I mention this only to help you prepare for the upcoming weeks.

One other thing you should know is that CFFC is the only blogging I’m doing until August 14th. I want to keep this challenge active during my break, but my presence will be limited. I plan to visit everyone who links their post to this page, but it might take me a while.

My feature photo today is one of the bunnies that lives around our house. He was munching along the side of our driveway when I was leaving for my walk.

OK, let’s take a look at the photos I’ve gathered this weeks’ prompt. By the way, I thought those of us dealing with back-to-back heat waves would appreciate looking at snow.

Willow and I are still shamelessly advertising our recent book. Last week, we added a new video (below) where we’re sharing some of the comments people have made in their reviews of Poetic Justice.

    1. Thanks! I think the heat has slowed some flowers, but the rain is helping.

  2. Thank you for the snow! Though we’ve cooled a few degrees down from hellish, that snow still looks inviting. Of course I love the train on the stone bridge. The crayon box is great — new crayons seem never to lose their appeal! Good Morning back to you!

    1. Thanks! When the snow pictures came up in my search, I had to include them. The thought of bundling up before going outside was comforting. Seeing a train on that stone bridge always makes for a good day. You’re right about new crayons :-)

  5. Is that an orange or a squash the bunny is munching in the cover photo?
And while the giant box of crayons is fun, it’s sunbathing bunny for the win today.

    1. That’s a pumpkin. The squirrels plant pumpkins in our yard when they bury some of the raw pumpkin seeds we include in the birdseed mix, We let the pumpkin plants grow. Last year, we had about 20 softball-sized pumpkins. We just cut them in half and let the squirrels eat them. Apparently the bunnies like them, too. I felt bad that the sunbather had to squint.

Love that first bunny photo, and of course, the Tree Dash Squirrel! The crayons are a hoot and the daffodils are a real eye catcher.

Right now that snow looks so inviting, but don’t ask me what I think about snow next January or February, my response would not be suitable for this family blog! Lol!

Old Glory sparkles no matter the weather or time of day. Wish I could say the same for myself!

Liz, I just love looking at photos/videos of winter. I just don’t like experiencing it any more! Couldn’t get enough snow when I was a kid, but aging tamped that down. But there is a quiet beauty about snow covered landscapes. Just don’t make me trudge through them! Lol!

        Have a wonderful week.

        1. Thanks, ginger. These days, snow is much better experienced through a window.

    2. Hi Ginger. Lately we seem to only get one or two snow storms that present any challenge. I still long for those views of deep snow covering the back yard. The thing I wish I would never see again is freezing rain.

The squirrel in that hole in the tree is adorable. That head pops out, and I’m tossing peanuts at the base of the tree.

  11. A host of golden daffodils…so pretty! So is that bunny squinting in the sun–how adorable! The little squirrel peeking out–he must be peeking at that giant box of crayons! 😂 Great photos, Dan.

  12. Most excellent photos, Dan.

I love the contrasts in sunlight in many of them, especially the bunny warming in the sunlight and the one among the leaves. The sunlight low among the trees is a superb image. Smokey is oh so cute darting off with his treasure (a peanut).

But, I love..love seeing trains–that Genesis Loco is awesome.

I can sense from the image the coolness of the morning in the photo of “Old Glory” with the minimal bits of light peeking through the trees. Feels like the start of autumn in that photo.

Thanks for always great ideas and the great photos of the critters. Enjoy your vacation.

P.S Thank you for taking time out from your vacay to share these delightful pics. Have a good one.

  15. Rabbits….

Rabbits are eating my wife’s garden, sooooo [pardon the following technical details]:

I bought a camera ($7) for my Raspberry PI 5 ($80) computer and downloaded Yolo8 image recognition software (free) to detect rabbits.

Once the camera detects a rabbit, the RPI 5 sends a audio clip to bluetooth speaker in the garden with Elmer Fudd muttering “I’m hunting wascally wabbits”.

    They scamper away in terror.

  36. That snowblower is a treat, Dan. Something I’d definitely want to try. Although it does remind me now of one of Liam Neeson’s thrillers.

Dan, I thoroughly enjoyed the tight-woven dialogue in “Poetic Justice: A Rascal Todd Mystery Featuring Brody Thompson.” Once again, you delivered a story full of wit. I appreciated that. :) Highly recommended to readers who enjoy smart crime fiction with heart and psychological depth.

The snowblower is fun to use. I still enjoy the snow storms that require it, although those storms complicate things.
