This week, we’re continuing our series where we’re looking for photos taken at different points during the day. This challenge was suggested by one our readers. In fact, that reader was none other than Willow Willers, the delightful co-author of our recently published novel. If you want to see the future ideas for this challenge, take a look at the home page. If you want to know more about Willow’s author role, I’ll be sure to stick some promotional material at the end.

For this series, the day has been divided into six blocks of time, so we need to be careful not to overlap. Last week, we covered morning. This week, afternoon, then we’ll move to evening, dusk and then night. The timing doesn’t need to be precise, I mention this only to help you prepare for the upcoming weeks.

One other thing still worth keeping in mind is that CFFC is the only blogging I’m doing until August 14th. I want to keep this challenge active during my break, but my presence will be limited. I plan to visit everyone who links their post to this page, but it might take me a while.

My feature photo today is one of the baby bunnies that was born in our yard. He/she was munching in the back yard one afternoon.

OK, let’s take a look at the photos I’ve gathered this weeks’ prompt. I chose pictures from events that I know took place in the afternoon — walks along the Windsor Locks Canal, my visit to the Dr. Seuss Museum, climbing Mt. Manadnock in New Hampshire with Faith (and I know we didn’t reach the top until afternoon) and other visits where I remember the time.

And now for that shameless advertising our recent book. Recently, we added a new video (below) where we’re sharing some of the comments people have made in their reviews of Poetic Justice.

    1. Thanks Wayne. I don’t think there’s anything cuter than a baby bunny. I’m glad you like these.

  5. So good you saw a Bobcat Dan. I like the look that the Terns give. The Crested Terns here look much the same. You would think it was windy 😂

    1. The Bobcat was a cool thing to see, Brian. We were all excited, but it was just crossing the river and seemingly not paying attention to us. You’re right about the Terns. They do look like it’s windy.

  6. Congrats on climbing Mt. Manadnock! Hope you are enjoying your break and having some fun although you’re in this heat wave that we are having so stay cool.

    1. Thanks Judy. Monadnock was harder to climb than I thought it would be, but it felt good to get to the top. I got back from a road trip just in time for this heat.

  7. Baby bunnies. How cute. Of course all baby animals are, aren’t they? I like the Dr Seuss sculptures too. The seals are a great shot. They remind me of some I saw in Scotland although my photo is not that good.

    1. The baby bunnies are the cutest things in our yard. We have other critters, but we don’t see most of them until they’re older. The bunnies are out of the nest and on their own pretty fast.

  8. That’s a great group. Love the sea lion shot.
As well as my morning bunny…

  9. Lovely photos! I like the Dr Suess sculpture and the Windsor Locks canal house the best. It seems like a lot of Northern hemisphere bloggers are absent or blogging less during August. Enjoy the break.

    1. Thanks. August is a slow month for blogs that I follow. The Sculpture Garden is my favorite part of the museum complex where the Seuss Museum is located. There have always been four museums, two art, history and science in nearby Springfield, MA. They added the Seuss Museum, but it’s small. I’m glad they also added the sculptures.

  12. The railroad bridge over the canal is wonderful — with reflection even! I love the ring of clouds around you and Faith on the mountain top; that’s a great photo too. And the pub — all the reflections and points of light, and yet it looks cozy too. The way a pub should look, I think. I will take your word for it that there’s a cow in that door; I could see something light down near the ground, but a cow? Still a cool barn. And, speaking of cool, thank you for the snow pictures! Much needed!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Maureen. I think the cow preferred being in the cool barn that day. The snow pictures feel good today. It’s heading to 94°f (34°c) today. After a day of walking around NYC, the Molly Wee is a great place to stop. I hope you have a wonderful week.

    1. Even cast in metal, Dave, I think he’s up to something ;-) The bobcat was comfortable walking away from us, and we were fine letting him/her have the bridge.

  14. LOVE the Dr. Seuss sculpture! And that bobcat! Wow! Baby bunnies are just too cute any time of day and the Terns look like they have a fan on them.

Great shot of you and Faith on the mountain top. Looks like you’re actually standing amongst the clouds.

I did look close, but I couldn’t see the cow. The pub is huge, yet it looks so friendly and inviting, just like a small pub around the corner.

Nice choice of photos. Flag display at memorial will always be the winner.

Enjoy the rest of your break. Unfortunately, Mother Nature is turning up the heat again.

    1. Thanks Ginger. The Molly Wee isn’t all that large, but it’s a wonderful place to stop before the train ride home from NYC.

Dr. Seuss and the Cat in the Hat are great, but I prefer Horton. Although, Thing 1 and Thing 2 are also family favorites.

That’s a close to the bobcat as I ever want to be. I found myself bleeding too many times just for putting something on MuMu’s shelf.

I hope you have a great week. I’m catching up, but still taking it slow.

  15. I can see why the shade tobacco shot is your favorite. That’s an absolutely gorgeous composition that looks alive! The terns crack me up — They look like action shots frozen in place.

    1. Thanks! I keep saying I’m going to put all my photos of the tobacco fields into a picture book. I took those pictures often for years, but that’s the best one I have. The Terns always look ready to run.

  16. If I had a bobcat walking along the back of my couch, lemme tell you how freaked out my cats would be! 😹
The tobacco fields…I always loved when you posted those photos. And the Least Terns…yeah, those guys look serious about racing. They look so focused! 😂

    1. Think of the bobcat when White Paws walks behind you on the couch. The Terns are one of the things I loved watching when I had to go to FL for meetings. I don’t think I was cut out for the corporate life.

  18. Hi Dan. Wonderful photos all. I like the outdoor atmospheric photos especially the one through the trees of Mount Monadnock; and, the contrast in lighting sources you captured in The Molly Wee Pub.

Great photos of the Windsor Locks Canal lock and the wonderful big barn.

I enjoyed all the critters, baby bunny with its relatively tiny ears perked up, the terns, the bobcat and the sea lions. Is that a seagull at the top of the buoy where the sea lions are basking like they own the buoy?

My favorite photo is the shade tobacco fields with the great brown hues and the draping fabric (cotton?) flowing in the breeze, the shadows are most excellent.

Thanks for all the great ideas Dan. Enjoy your vacation and thank you for taking time out to still post for this challenge. Cheers.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Suzette. You are sharp again, that is a seagull on the buoy. It’s hard to tell afternoon from morning, but I chose photos I knew were taken after 12:00. The Molly Wee is our stop before getting on the train for home from NYC, and the canal was the afternoon I went to capture the train (I already used that photo). The critters are most active in the afternoon, although I hope I can find some bunny shots during the evening.

The shade tobacco photo is one of my favorites. I stopped on my way home from work to get that one. The light was perfect that day. The fabric is shade cloth, but I don’t know what it’s made out of. It is durable.

      1. Thanks Dan. You capture great detail in your photos, it is not hard the spot the added snippets in them. Thanks for the added info on the seagull.
And, you are right, it is hard to tell morning from afternoon in photos. Well done presentation. Cheers.

    1. I’m glad you like these. In this kind of weather, the animals are pretty calm as long as they have enough to eat and a nice cool drink. I like the sculptures.

          1. It’s great! I published a couple of reviews for you last night on your first books because I had them written in Google Docs. I was keeping track of books I read in 2024. I got off to a good start, then after February, I abruptly stopped. I wanted to do one for A Bridge to Nowhere, and I couldn’t find any review. I’ll have to review the book since it’s been a while. I forget so much of what I read that I need a reminder. :) xxx

            1. Thank you so much, Marsha. I have to catch up with some reviews as well. I’m bad about posting them.

              Liked by 1 person

            2. I’m bad about writing them, too. I think I’m going to, then life gets in the way. I start another book, and then I have two to write, and then it builds. I have no idea how many books I’ve even read, at this point because I read print books, too, and those don’t show up on my Kindle list. At any rate, when I slow down a bit, I’ll get to the rest of them. You write them faster than I can write the reviews.

I’d love to see a Bobcat but, no on the back of my sofa. 😂 That Trestle bridge is lovely in every season, and time of day isn’t it. Have a lovely week, Dan and I hope you’re enjoying your blogging break.

    1. Thanks Deborah. The snow looked refreshing given that it’s 95-degrees today. I was happy to be on the other side of the canal from that bobcat. He didn’t seem to care about us. He just crossed the river and jumped into the woods.

      1. I hope the heat wave has passed by now and you’ve got cooler days and lovely summer evenings. It feels like Fall is creeping in here. The Hot-wing Maple has lost it’s glorious red tips and some other trees in the neighborhood are showing the same signs of their leaves turning brown or yellow. The mornings are in the low 50’s with low 90’s in the afternoons. The 10 day forecast says we’re dropping to the high 70’s next week. Fall is on the way.

        1. Today’s high is going to be 68. We are in the 70s and barely 80s this week. I’m not sure there isn’t another heatwave in the future, but I’m enjoying this.
