This week, we’re continuing our series where we’re looking for photos taken at different points during the day. This challenge was suggested by one our readers. In fact, that reader was none other than Willow Willers, the delightful co-author of our recently published novel. If you want to see the future ideas for this challenge, take a look at the home page. If you want to know more about Willow’s author role, I’ll be sure to stick some promotional material at the end.

For this series, the day has been divided into six blocks of time, so we need to be careful not to overlap. Last week, we covered morning. This week, evening, then we’ll move to dusk and then night. The timing doesn’t need to be precise, I mention this only to help you prepare for the upcoming weeks.

My feature photo today is one of the adult bunnies that lives under my workshop. I’m guessing on the time of day, but I think this was taken in the evening.

OK, let’s take a look at the photos I’ve gathered this weeks’ prompt. I chose pictures from events that I know took place in the evening— .

And now for that shameless advertising our recent book. Recently, we added a new video (below) where we’re sharing some of the comments people have made in their reviews of Poetic Justice.

  1. These are so good evening photos Dan. I like Seattle harbour and the baseball field. The Gateway Clipper looks a little over crowded

    1. Thanks Brian. I loved going to that little park in Seattle where I took the photo of the harbor. The crowd on that boat is one reason we try to take the earliest shuttle.

  2. How fun that the welding photo is so popular – and my fav today – the iced coffee running agains the hot coffee (rooting for the hot)

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The welding photo is one of my all time favorites, Yvette. In the race with Iced and Hot, there was also Sprinkles – a person dressed as a chocolate covered donut with sprinkles. Dressing and running in those costumes, in that heat, had to be awful.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. yes – had to be tough and not everyone is cut out for the heat – so it looks like they found folks who could do that.
And while we never eat at Dunkin’ – I sure do like the way they rebranded and grew as a company. Taking the donuts out of the name (like KFC went with those three letters to get away from the word FRIED in Kentucky Fried chicken – I remember a business guy ranting about it back in 1992). Anyhow, I also think their clever tagline “America runs on Dunkin” was very clever.
With that said, I think their food is crap (industrial seed oils, sugar, corn syrup, artificial this and that) and we just watched part of the documentary about the Biggest Loser ( Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser, released on Netflix August 15, 2025) and it was really interesting – but the reason I mention it is because sadly, they said that at the start of the show (which ran 2004 to 2016)- the obesity rate was at about 24% and now America’s obesity rate is at 42% (or higher) – and that is scary. And maybe it is because so many Americans “do RUN ON things like Dunkin’” –
        sigh

        1. I do have a donut or two on rare occasions. When I was working, it was a lot more often, as three of us used to walk over for coffee almost every morning. I watched them “make” their breakfast sandwiches. They took each ingredient out of a different drawer, slapped it on a bagel and microwaved it. I never had one.

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Hahah – that is funny about the food from the drawers – and my kids went to surf camp in FL and my mother took my son to Dunkin on the way to camp – and that was when I found out they carried more than donuts? I was like, what? And it si the same thing with Tim Horton’s – early to mid 80s – they were only donuts and coffee. Now sandwiches and a lot more.
And I used to like “peanut sticks” but those seemed to have gone away

            Liked by 1 person

            1. Do you remember the “Dunkin’ Donut” ? The one with a little handle on the side so you could hold it and dunk it in your coffee.

              Liked by 1 person

            2. no, I do not – but that sounds really fun! Would love to see an image of it and it sounds like a good idea.
and maybe donuts should have a mention in one of the Rascal Todd narratives – “they went and got real half and half – and then somehow had a pink box with six glazed and six creme filled donuts for everyone to pick from”
              jhahahah

  3. Ah, the two Seattle pictures were the view from my living room when I lived in Seattle. Lovely memories of a great city.

    1. Glad I could post the memory. That is a beautiful area of the city. I worked at the bottom Queen Anne Hill and I had a nice view of the harbor. It was hard to concentrate some days.

      1. Wow. I lived on Warren Ave on lower Queen Anne and loved the area. I miss it and the view.

  4. Mountain mugging for the camera. Love this image, like past meets future! The mountain is stunning and the buildings look almost alien like, especially the spaceship looking one.

    1. I would add that the mountain is eternal, Wayne, but it’s still considered an active volcano, so perhaps not. It is a huge contrast.

  7. Good morning Dan I love your photos today especially the mountain mugging! They are all amazing that Gateway Clipper looks full of fans…and that threatening sky looks ominous but usually in the evening that type of sky is a good omen.

    have a great week!

    1. Thanks Willow, and thanks for joining us with your wonderful collection. That boat was certainly full. I know they have guys counting noses as people board, but it looks like they missed a few. I don’t recall any of those skies opening up, but some did send a scary message.

      Have a great week!

      2. Not where we were swimming. There were a few rocks behind the breakline, enough to attract a few fish to keep the grandson occupied. But nothing spetactular (we are spoilt though, used to snorkel / dive in the Red Sea near Jeddah, which is – so I’m told – much better than the Egyptian side because there are less tourist divers etc.

  10. I’m partial to that view of Seattle’s ferry system. What a beautiful expanse there. Like with the mountain in the background of the city, there’s really a laugh from Mother Earth: we think we’re so important, but look how small and temporary we are! Those are very eloquent images.

    1. Thanks Maureen. Mother Nature does have a way of putting us in perspective. All that water, and it’s really only the entrance to the Pacific Ocean.

  11. Lovely pictures. Where do sunsets fit in – evening I think.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Robbie. I think sunsets would fit in evening and (as it sinks beneath the horizon), maybe dusk. These two time slots confused me a bit. But like I said at the start, we needn’t be precise. Although for some of us, that is our nature ;-)

  12. That’s a beautiful (well fed) bun! But damn, your lawn looks as dry as ours.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. That’s an older photo. Our yard is green, but that’s because it’s mostly weeds. The good news: the bunnies prefer the weeds over grass.

      1. Ah. We’re approaching drought status so I thought you might be as well…

        Liked by 1 person

        1. We are. They actually issued a warning yesterday. The weeds seem to tolerate the heat and dryness better than grass. We are having to water the pumpkins the squirrels planted (hard to believe I wrote that sentence).

  13. I love the rainbow photo; that is a great moment captured. Wow! The photo of welding in Philadelphia… Love the muted lighting and the crane doing its work. Lots of drama captured with the fast-moving cars in contrast, too. Outstanding photo!

I am always happy to see trains. I love your train photo (okay and the building too). I think I can see the Amtrak logo there, but I am not sure. Awesome.

An iconic photo of the PNC Park in the evening with the huge lights over the field, great capture.

Too cute bunny looking rather fluffy and chill. Wonderful.

Thanks for the great examples, Dan. Much appreciated. Have a good one. Cheers.

    1. Thanks Suzette! I’m so glad you like these. The welding photo is one of my all time favorites. The shadow from the bright light is so interesting.

I knew I had stadium photos from night games, so I searched for them.

The bunnies like to eat in the evening and overnight. They’re always a welcome sight.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

    1. The ride is only about half a mile. They do count the people getting on board, so, in theory, it’s safe. I worked on that boat when I was in high school. It was never a rough ride.
