Note: I didn’t mean this to be restrictive – any place you eat/drink is fine. Coffee shops, sandwich shops, etc. Go for it!

This week we’re starting a new series of challenges. I’m not sure what the best way of summing it up is, but let’s go with “Places People Spend Time and/or Money.” If you look at the home page, you can see the kinds of places we’ll be trying to find. I don’t think there’s a lot of overlap, but it’s always good to know what the future is going to bring.

I’m starting the series with what might seem like an easy one for me, but I tend to patronize the same place every week, so I will have to dig through the archives.

My featured photo is from one of the bars where David and I have often met on Saturdays. This image was from a special Saturday when we hosted Teagan Riordain Geneviene after she released a new book. Teagan recently released the omnibus version of Dead of Winter in both Kindle and Audiobook formats. I am excited for Teagan, and if you’ve never read this epic fantasy, you should pick this up now. By the way, I listened to the audiobook Teagan released in July and I totally enjoyed it.

Let’s take a look at the photos I’ve gathered this week’s prompt.

Six of Dan's books
The Dreamer’s Alliance and Rascal Todd Mysteries on “display” on the Gateway Clipper.

If any of those look interesting, you can find them all here. PS, they are all also available in audiobook format. I used KDP’s Virtual Voice, but I edited each book in its entirety, and I really like the way they turned out. And, as far as audiobooks go, they are a bargain.

      1. You should know that no one respects “rules” on WP photo challenges 😂

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I think that’s a good thing. My only concern is that I don’t overlap and have someone realize two weeks down the road that they used a great photo in a previous post. I really shouldn’t worry about it. People figure things out just fine.

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Sometimes that can happen but you can’t do much about what people post.
The one I don’t like is when the same theme is repeated the next week or days later by someone else’s challenge.

            Liked by 1 person

            1. I’ve stepped into that with other photo challenges. I think I’m more likely to overlap with things than places, but it can be tricky.

  4. The Molly Wee Pub looks very pretty. I hope the food is also good. Dim Sum restaurants are usually big and busy, and noise also. It will be a nice series, Dan.

    1. Thanks Miriam. The Molly Wee has a small menu but the food is very good. I discovered it over 20 years ago and I still like to visit whenever I’m in New York.

      1. BTW; I wanted to say that we don’t have dim sum restaurants in Germany (yet) – which is not quite true I found out after some quick googling – but the average Chinese restaurant in Germany is buffet style. And they are often quite huge. I’ve been to small Thai or Vietnamese restaurants but never a small Chineses restaurant.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. We don’t have any dim sum restaurants around where I live. I tend to prefer Thai restaurants. There was a Vietnamese restaurant in the next town over, but I think it closed.

  8. Really like the Molly Wee Pub. The name alone would draw me in. The Tunxis Grille makes a nice appearance outside so I imagine it’s comfortable inside.

The Dim Sum restaurant is waayyy too big for me. It would be like eating in the middle of Grand Central Station. Can’t imagine the noise level! I would opt for lunch at Maisy’s!

Ya know, I’ve been to restaurants that had a bar in them, but I’ve never been to a bar! Hmmmm, maybe I need to remedy that! 🤣

The Molly Wee is more bar than restaurant, but the people are nice, the food is good and the beer is cold. It always works for me.

The Dim Sum restaurant was interesting. A friend took me there, and acted as my guide. I didn’t have a clue as to what to do as waiters floated around with different things to eat. It was fun, and we ate well.

I hope you have a good week!

The Molly Wee looks great. Do you know who lives in the apartments overhead? It is downtown so, of course, I think it would be the best place to live. Great photos, all of them.

I don’t know who lives above the Molly Wee, but if I moved to NYC, I’d check that out. I read a year or so ago that a developer wants to tear down the building an build some high rise there. I’d be sad.

        1. Haha. Lois, it really was fun to imagine being at the bar while I made that collage image. One good thing about eating cheeseburgers and fries with angel-bots is they don’t snitch fries from your plate!

            1. Haha. Maybe one day a Skippy and Lulu reunion. She is oddly quiet in her corner of my imagination — usually any mention of her starts her dancing around. Maybe she’s already away somewhere with Skippy… Someplace with cheeseburgers and giggle water.

              Liked by 1 person

            2. That could be. Skippy is on the stage in New York City. Maybe he meets her back stage or beneath the stage. Maybe it’s when someone makes a play from Poetic Justice and Skippy plays the part of the guy in a coma for most of the story 🙂

  14. Superb gallery, Dan. I love the Molly Wee pub photos. The facade looks like 19th-century New York architecture with lots of brickwork. And it is a bonus that it is a corner building… Most excellent.

Great photo of the Tunxis Grill, looks to be a great place for some good onion soup (my imagination speculates..)! And I love the sky and the whole angled perspective of your photo.

I like those barstools in the photo of the bar, and you captured some great light sources in that one.

But my favorite is the Railyard Taproom photo and the images on the wall murals; that must be a great interior decor. Love it. I could well imagine having a meal there!

Thanks, Dan, for the note on what photos could be included in this challenge; I appreciate your generous latitude. Cheers

P.S. It is early here, so I am now suddenly very hungry for breakfast… Thanks!

  15. Thanks Suzette. I don’t know how old the building is but it does have that old New York look to it.

Tunxis Grill does make very good French Onion soup. I’ve had it on a few cold afternoons.

The Railyard Taproom was very good. My brother and I each had a flight, and I think we split one after that. The food was good and I enjoyed being surrounded by railroad images.

Someone asked earlier about coffee shops, I realized I might have been too restrictive. I didn’t mean to be You know me, anything goes.

I’ve been dealing with different companies on the phone this morning, so I haven’t eaten yet either.

I hope you have a great week!

What is it about bar photos that I enjoy so much? No idea, but I always get caught up in the ones you post. Even the crowded Dim Sum — your picture captures a probably noisy room, but happily so, with everyone clearly enjoying delicious food. Not many people could make a crowded room look appealing to me. I’m really intrigued by the closeup of the “golden” wood door where the entrance makes a circle around it. It makes me imagine a gypsy wagon. Have a marvelous Monday. Big hugs.

    1. Thanks Resa. My visits are spread out over a long period of time. I try to get to the Molly Wee once a year, and I don’t always make that. Oddly enough, what I don’t do often is dine in a restaurant. I visit the bar, place a take out order and head home. If I do eat, I eat at the bar. That’s a carryover from years of traveling and eating alone while on the road.
