This is the time of year that we spend time cleaning up the beauty that is autumn in New England and preparing for whatever winter in New England might bring to us. One of those tasks is to get our cars in the garage. We don’t actually like parking there, but it’s necessary. Of course, during the late spring and summer, the garage morphs into project space and that has to be reset to clear and vacant.

It so much easier deciding to throw something out when you have to stick two cars in the garage.

Autumn observation — One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

The autumn leaves are only with us for a short while, so the gallery will include them for as long as they last.

If any of those look interesting, you can find them all here. PS, they are all also available in audiobook format. I used KDP’s Virtual Voice, but I edited each book in its entirety, and I really like the way they turned out. And, as far as audiobooks go, they are a bargain.

  1. Beautiful autumn scenes, Dan! I wish I could get hubby to move projects around to fit all our vehicles into our shop! You’re motivated!

    1. Thanks Willow. We used to only get one car in, and I always hated having to clean the other car while clearing the driveway. This is way better.

  5. Beautiful autumn 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁 photos.

We have been decorating and I have also found it’s easier to clear out “rubbish and clutter rather than putting it back in a fresh room”

We have a long thin double garage which was built in the sixties….cars were small and thinner then. So even though it’s a long space it’s too narrow for most cars so we all use our drives or the road …. It’s a real nuisance!! ….lol 😆😆😆

    1. I know that feeling. Find a place for this thing I haven’t used in ages or toss it?

The previous owner had a metal working business, so he built the garage big enough for a car, his truck and tool storage in the back. I stole the back and added it to my workshop. We can’t ever have bigger cars than we have today, but I don’t think that’s a problem.

  7. Good one-liner Dan. We have never had a garage, but I understand what you’re saying. A garage becomes the workshop/storage space during spring, summer and fall, but everything changes so you can get the cars in for winter.

Beautiful shots of colorful foliage. Tons of leaves on the ground here, yet the trees don’t look like they have shed much. Weird!

    Have a great day.

    1. It’s our nature to fill open spaces, Ginger. I’ve gotten better at keeping the garage clean enough during the year so it’s only a one-day task to get the cars in, but it’s a long day.

Leaves are everywhere but we still have lots of green trees. It’s an odd autumn.

  8. Our garage always holds vehicles but the sides and front get bulky from those summer projects so I’ve been working on clearing those areas myself. I’m grateful our recycling center is only a couple of miles down the road. :-) Happy clearing.

    1. With my projects, I’d be afraid of damaging one of the cars if we left them in. Plus, I park my utility trailer in the garage beginning with the day I get dirt for the buckets my wife uses in her garden. She always refreshes some of the containers. I back the trailer in and we work out of that.

When our town switched to the wheeled bins for trash pickup, they let you buy a second bin for $75. We bought one. We don’t use it very often, but it comes in handy for weeks like this. They no longer allow you to buy a second bin, but if you have one, you can still use it.

  10. Thanks for showcasing the beautiful leaves, Dan. No color yet here. In autumn I rarely see any except yellow. I guess red and orange leaf trees just don’t tend to do well in the climate. Good luck with the garage project. Hugs. 🍂 🎃. 🍁

    1. I’m glad you like these, Teagan. We don’t get a lot of red, so they really stand out. The maple trees turn yellow and orange, and they usually are the first to turn. It’s so pleasant to walk this time of year.

  13. That photo taken in the storm break is a great one. There’s a peculiar light that comes in that mid-storm moment, and you captured it. I also like your featured photo — the twin stoplights and the twin arms on the light pole, the whole contrast between Nature and Mechanics. A good start to my day, which, by the way, does happen to involve the garage. I have no idea who slops it up.

  14. Lovely photos and a great line about fitting two cars in the garage. Since our eldest granddaughter is now of driving age and we’re not schlepping around kids like we used to, our cars have gotten significantly smaller …. something I am not complaining about!

    1. I’m with you on the smaller cars, Nancy. That fact allowed me to carve 10′ off the back of the garage and add it to my workshop. My car is still big enough to stick an 8′ piece of lumber in, but not much bigger.

  18. Great photos, Dan. We are about the only two in our neighborhood who have their cars in the garage. Which leads me to wonder why folks leave expensive cars out in the weather and keep a bunch of cheap junk in the garage.

    1. The guy across the street from me has a 3-car garage full of junk and three cars outside. We leave them outside from April to October, but I get them back in every year.

  21. Autumn looks beautiful there. I got a little fixated on the image of the entrance to the park and that telephone pole behind the splendid tree and the tree branch on the left that looks as if it’s climbing along the wires to the pole and intertwining with all the things and wires. Weird, I know but, that caught my eye this morning. 🤪

    Liked by 1 person

    1. That image is deceiving. The entrance is a very steep hill. The telephone pole sits on top of a levee. The park is designed to absorb water when the river floods, and the parking lot is in the lowest portion. I’m glad you like the pictures.

  23. Necessity is the mother of invention…too often whether we like it or not. ;) Kudos for working on making room for the two cars. Cold and ice don’t make for good companions with cars in the winter. We’ve had a couple of slight frosts this week so I know the drill about getting things winterized. Luckily I started early so I’m not running around in a wet snow at 8 PM at night.

    1. We had one day where we had frost on the windshields. That was the signal to get them inside. I hate scraping that nasty little layer of epoxy frost.

  24. Great autumn gallery, Dan. I love this time of year; each day brings new outdoor scenes, scenes of which I never grow tired. I love your close-ups of the leaves and the entrance to Great River Park. Beautiful view of the stormy skies, great capture. Hope your moving around of things is going well. The benefits of a garage in winter are a definite plus.
I hope you have a wonderful day.

P.S. Are the red trees, Maple trees? Just curious.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m glad you liked these, Suzette. I’m not sure if the deep red trees are a type of maple. Most maples don’t get that red. We have three (young) Red Maples. The leaves turn red in the fall, but not that deep. I might have to scan one close up.

  27. Dan, our leaves appear to be less than cooperative this year in throwing forth some yellows and reds. A lot of them appear to be headed straight from green to brown. Still, it hasn’t stopped us from taking it all in. Regardless of the choice of colors, it is an amazing time for our region as well. As with Liz’s comments, some of the best foliage we’ve seen has been out our home’s windows!
