Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the States. We live about two miles from Connecticut’s largest airport, so we’ll have a lot of traffic coming through town. Many will be driving rental cars, and when they return them, they’ll stop for gas where I usually stop. Except the prices will be a lot higher. That’s why I tend to top off my car before the holiday starts.

Connecticut has a funny law. Gas stations can’t charge a higher fee for credit card sales (to recover the card swipe fees) however, they can offer a discount for people paying with cash. The discount usually equals the credit card swipe fee on a gallon of gas. I was a little confused when I stopped yesterday.

gas pump
Seems backwards…

I don’t think the owner understands accounting — it’s supposed to be a discount for cash.

Offered for One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

The gallery is full of equally confused photos. Some think it’s still autumn, some think it’s already winter.

  1. I guess someone left their business head in bed that morning! It’s very confusing but not as confusing as our electrical recharge yesterday! 😲

I love the photos, the downward dog and the longhorn perfect. Those glorious droplets on tarp mascarading as diamonds, Oh and the ice cow and the flags. Have a great day 💜

    1. Thanks Willow. This is a station that normally charges the same for Cash or Credit, so I was surprised. But I was getting the lower price.

I’m glad you like the pictures in this group. Sorry about the recharge confusion but I’m glad you got it worked out.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!

  3. LOL! That’s not going to work the way they think it will. The leaf shadows are fun. I wonder how both squirrels fit themselves and all their bounty in there? 😊 Happy Thanksgiving to and yours, Dan!

    1. I’m not sure what was going on with those prices. Normally, this station charges the same for both. It’s one of the reasons I go there. Everyone has the same price advertised, but other add $0.10 for credit. I’m not sure how they pack everything in that tree, unless the hole is bigger than I imagine. Happy Thanksgiving you you and your family, too, Deborah.

  4. Winter skies are definitely here. I swear we haven’t seen the sun in a week.
Connecticut gas, ugh. You’re a good 25 cents higher than us.

    1. Taxes. The only good thing for you is that we’re small enough to drive through. I can actually save about 10 cents if I buy gas in Massachusetts. I don’t drive up to fill up, but if I’m shopping up that way, I stop on my way home.

  5. I topped off my gas tank yesterday so I don’t have to go anywhere near a gas station and the tourists. It’s raining here this morning, but then the temps are dropping. Have a good day tomorrow, Dan, and if a monopoly game is on tap, I hope you get lucky. :-)

    1. Avoiding the crush every way possible, this weekend. Good plan. It’s raining here, too. It looks to get up over 60 today. I’m not sure what’s up with the weather. I hope you have a great day and weekend. I’ll do my best if game boards come out.

  7. That’s a cowster — body of a cow with the head of a rooster. Cockadoodle-moo, yes? You nailed this season: still autumn and already winter. Exactly. Love that arrangement of brown leaves with frost! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Dan! Memories for you too this year, I think.

    1. Happy Thanksgiving, Maureen. Lots of memories on this day. Most of which make me smile or at least laugh. Cowster, I kinda like that. That would surely get you out of bed. I’ll wait patiently as nature figures out which way she’s going.

  8. The tail is very long for a dog shadow. Could be part cat. I wonder how many leaves with shadows you have. It would make a fun post if you could gather them all up.

    1. I have to look I do have them all tagged (except for maybe the first few). It’s one of my favorite things to look for. The tail is long. I don’t do anything to clean up the actual shadow. Sometimes, I remove extraneous bits, but not part of the animal.

  9. Thank you for the wonderful photos of the verge of winter! I love the skies you captured as the drama unfolds.

Dan, I truly love how you seek out the small things to highlight in your photos; that is a gift. The water drops you captured are my favorites.
The leaf shadows are superb, as are your characterizations of them…a long horn…perfect.

And I agree that the ice puddle is reminiscent of a cow’s marking…a moo-ving moment I could milk with many puns…

Smokey in the tree is too cute. How ever do you get such perfect photos of the squirrels in their treehouse peeking out through its door. Well done.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving day and week, Dan.

    1. Thank you so much, Suzette The squirrels pop out of the tree to look around when they hear someone coming. I think they know I’m the guy that makes a delivery ;-) I took pictures of the gray squirrel as well, but they didn’t come out. I was hoping to have a little comparison.

Little things amaze me. Sometimes they make good images, often not, but at least with digital, that isn’t hurting my wallet.

I think we could go pretty far along the “Moo” path. But it’s fun.

I hope you have a great rest of the week.

  10. The water droplets are beautiful! The frost on the oak leaves are really pretty. I like these photos–they look cold, and we are still warm here. Too warm for me.

That Connecticut law is strange…and kind of funny. Here in Florida, paying by cash can be as much as ten cents cheaper than by card. Some gas stations have a membership fee to get a lower rate. That’s insane. We just cross state lines and gas up in Alabama. They are usually around 25 cents cheaper than Florida.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Editor, Dan!

    1. I”m glad you like the water drop, Lois. Those are a favorite subject of mine.

I can save at least 10 cents if I buy gas in Massachusetts but it’s only worth it if I have an errand to run up there. A discount for cash is nice, but carrying that much cash isn’t always in the cards. Plus, I’ll buy a candy bar at the counter and spend the savings.

      Happy Thanksgiving!

  11. Winter skies here too….way too early. The water drops on the tarp look like clear glass globes!

Yes, that patch of ice does look like a cow. Love the ‘longhorn’ leaf shadow. Looks like that tree has become a condominium! Ah, progress even in the squirrels world!

Flags blowing are a beautiful sight.

Wishing you and the Editor and Faith a wonderful Thanksgiving with a delicious meal and then dessert served with love. Priceless!

  12. That is bizarre, Dan. But then… The water utility charges more for paying online, and still more for paying by checking account than by credit card. Aside from the stupidity, it irks me to have to pay an additional fee for the privilege of paying my bill… (And people who go in person to pay with cash say their hours have been cut in half, and when they’re supposed to be working, the payment window is usually closed.) Thanks for the beautiful gallery. Hugs.

    1. Sounds like they don’t want your money. That’s crazy. Our utilities all want online payments, but I don’t think they care how they get the money. Thanks for dropping by. Enjoy the rest of this week.

  17. That Connecticut gasoline pricing law is new to me. The prices sign made me laugh. So did the New England tractor school picture. I have experience with a trainee truck driver. Was working at a place years ago where we could park on the side of the driveway leading up to the building’s warehouse/dock area. One day, someone walked into my office and asked me to come outside. Oops. Trainee driver backed trailer into Bruce’s parked car. I laugh about it now. John’s “Longhorn” really looks the part! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Dan.

  18. so cool..I’ve been to Connecticut…sister lives there, was in Weston, Stamford, and now Goshen….and gas costs. OMG, we have the oil sands, we ship oil everywhere, but our prices rise when American refineries shut down for maintenance or repairs….it’s like there’s a dart board which is why the prices change everyday
